Aloha United Way

Joshua Neves Children’s Foundation (JNCF)

The mission of the Joshua Neves Children’s Foundation (JNCF), a501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity, is to support bereaved Hawaii families who have lost a child, and provide them with the assistance they need to navigate through their grief with bereavement support, spiritual guidance, financial assistance, and fellowship. JNCF also is committed to assisting families who have children battling life-threatening injury or illness.  

The Blood Bank of Hawaii

The Blood Bank of Hawaii is a nonprofit organization that provides lifesaving blood products to 11 hospitals on Oahu and eight hospitals on the neighbor islands. Typical uses for the blood include surgical procedures, treatment of accident victims, ulcers, anemia, delivery for mother and baby, and cancer.  

Hawaii Food Bank

The Hawaii Food Bank provides food so that no one goes hungry. Food bank works to gather food and support from the community. They distribute food through charitable agencies to those in greatest need on the Oahu, Big Island, Maui and Kauai.  

Police Activities League

Newton Young, owner of Akamai Roofing, Inc., joined the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) in January 2000. He served as a full-time police officer from January 2000 through September of 2004 while still operating Akamai Roofing. Upon completion of his academy training and full-time service, he transitioned into the reserve police program. Reserved officers perform the same duties as full-time officers but on a strictly volunteer basis, giving a minimum of 20 hours of service each month. Newton works with the Police Activities League (PAL) as the assistant head coach for its boxing program for Hawaii's youth. PAL is comprised of 14 officers and is supervised by two sergeants and one lieutenant. Each officer serves as a field director and is responsible for developing and maintaining various sports activities. Since 1948, over 300,000 youngsters have benefited from PAL. PAL is heavily dependent on volunteers who serve as advisors and coaches. These volunteers must be loyal, supportive, dedicated, and have the willingness to sacrifice personal time to work with the youth in our communities.
